Check out what folks are saying about Bridgetown Breaks…
REMIX!
From the Sept. Issue of REMIX Magazine:
“HEAR THE DRUM, GET WICKED
Something is in the water in Portland, Oregon. Something funky. Bridgetown Breaks Vol. 2 ($13; www.bridgetownbreaks.com), available on CD or vinyl, features just less than an hour of straight acoustic drum tracks for you to sample, loop, scratch or beat juggle in your tracks or live sets — royalty free. Nine of Portland’s dopest drummers and the beatboxer Fogatron contribute beats, and there are also several kits worth of individual drum hits and some analog synth sounds thrown in for good measure.”

“We’ve got a promo copy to give away of Bridgetown Breaks Vol. 2, the 2nd edition of all original, live drumming that features 10 of Portland’s best drummers, including Kevin O’Connor of Talkdemonic and Danny Seim of Menomena. The brainchild of PJ Portlock, a Portland producer and musician—from rock to experimental and hip-hop to jazz—the release is a goldmine for DJs, producers, and other musicians looking for samples or individual beats separated out from each drummer’s kit for programming. Available on CD and vinyl, you can get a copy from Bridgetown Breaks or get both by letting us know when and where you plan to listen to the album before next Tuesday, 25 July 2006 and we’ll select a winner from the best answers.”

“One of the more interesting albums to come across my world these days comes from Portland and is called Bridgetown Breaks (Volume 2). Check out their excellent website. Basically, it’s a collection of original drum tracks from 10 drummers coming from Portland (Oregon, not Maine)….. Just drums, ranging in style from hip-hop to indie to jazz to anything your heart desires.
Drummers on the project include Kevin Robinson (Viva Voce), Danny Seim (Menomena), Kevin O’Connor (Talkdemonic), Amanda Spring (Point Juncture Washington), Drew Shoals (Fiction Junkies, Chris Mosley Trio), Charles Neal (QuiVaH), Mike McKinnon (Wet Confetti), Sam Schauer (Modernstate, Humans), Paul Alcott (Binary Dolls), and beatboxer Fogatron (Luminous Fog, Fogatron).
Since I’m by no means a drum expert, I put the album in front of two of my drummer friends and had them choose their favorite tracks. They overlapped four, but the whole album is quite excellent.
Those of you who enjoy drum tracks, sampling, drum-n-bass, or anything of the sort will really enjoy this record.”

Boy Eats Drum Machine

Portland area musician and producer, Boy Eats Drum Machine, has released “Pleasure” a full-length CD of electo-pop featuring samples from Bridgetown Breaks vol 1. BEDM samples Talkdemonic’s ‘Weapons Inspector #1′ on the opening track ‘Pleasure Theme Song’. On ‘eunuch’, he samples ‘1/2 way to Miami’ by Charles Neal and Brett Paschal. On the surf-guitar infused ’si(x)cuse me’ and the following song, ‘5-0′, BEDM samples ‘Perpetual Motion Machine’ and ‘Rollbotic’, both by Systemwide’s Josh Skins. On the up-beat space pop of “the taste of your mouth”, you can hear Danny Seim of Menomena’s ‘Danny’s Haircut’. And on the concluding track ’sometimes you wanna go…’, check out the samples from the ‘Danny vs. Demonic’ drum battle between Talkdemonic’s Kevin O’Connor and Menomena’s Danny Seim.
Bridgetown Breaks is pleased that other musicians have been able to draw inspiration from this project and hopes that others will follow in BEDM’s footsteps in unlocking the many many samplable gems found in Bridgetown Breaks vol 1.
