Our friend Steven Kray, drummer and audio doctor for Portland/SF/Houston neo-funksters’ Lockboxx hit us up with some of his studio outtakes from the sessions for their new album “Drop Shop“, out now on Character Records.
Steven takes a “shitty is pretty” attitude to recording; if it sounds good, it is good. This break was recorded with just two mics and a little four-track recorder. He put a Radio-Shack dynamic mic in the kick, hooked up a cheapo condenser for overhead, and red-lined the suckers to get that oh-so-nice saturation. We present it here un-effected for your tweaking pleasure.
Enjoy!
