Here’s another free song for download from my new album, Consider The Source. It will be available on <strike>Tuesday, May 18th</strike>. I’ll be posting additional information soonly.

download

This track, entitled “Purple Flavor” is a cosmic synth jam grounded by a massive Big Beat break and a heavy laser bass melody. For those that don’t know – I love me some synth and you’ll hear them all over the new record. I’ve been known to get lost in patches, turning knobs until I hit diminishing returns…”Idle hands are the devil’s workshop”…so they say. This was another track that really came together in the final stages of production. The sinewous lead synth ended up working as a nice counterpoint to the percolating space chimes.

The song was inspired by the synthesis work that’s commonly heard on Prog, New Wave, and Electronic records from the mid-to-late 70’s. Im a huge fan of Malcom Cecil and I think his influence is audible in many of my songs. They had such great tones on those albums and this was my attempt at recreating some of those sounds. Consider The Source, as a whole, features a ton of keys. You’ll hear Grand Piano, Moog, Rhodes, Hammond, Arp, Farfisa and a few that I can’t name because their origins are unknown.

You can download the track here. It includes a 320k version, the artwork for the single and some notes. This song goes well with a pair of Blue Blockers and a mid-afternoon bike ride in the sun. As always, thank you for listening – and thank you for the continued support.

I’ve been an Apple devotee for many years now, but their draconian security polices and their control freak obsessiveness is reaching a critical threshold. Lala was a truly innovative music discovery site that actually provided the consumer with a choice. Unlike iTunes, you could stream an entire album for free. After the first listen it would play back 30-sec clips and you would have the option to either buy a download of the album (or individual songs) or buy a web album that would be available for streaming from your Lala account. It appears as if Apple only accepts competition when it’s rival is in a distant second place. Anything that challenges the status quo will quickly & quietly be acquired and dismantled. Apple helped revolutionize the music industry and now it seems they’ve succumbed to the perversion of power. They’re quickly becoming a modern digital dictator, a post-industrial monopoly that threatens the livelihood of the musicians and artists that inspired the creation of the iTunes platform.

This track, entitled “Idle Argument” is an organ-driven psych burner. It was my attempt at writing a “melt-yr-face-off” kinda song in the style of Goblin or a heavier, dirtier version of Lesiman. Pounding drums, 60’s style short-scale bass, tremolo fuzz madness, and a healthy dose of Space Echo. Add some horn bursts, some trippy ethereal vocals….slather on the magma-laden organ and BAM, it’s done!!!

In all honesty it really didn’t happen that fast. It was a demo for well over two years and really came together within the last few weeks of finishing the album. Joining me on the track are Kevin Robinson (Viva Voce, Blue Giant) on bass and Sebastian Bibb-Barrett (Federale) on trumpet. Infinite thanks to them both for helping me bring this track to life.

You can download the track here. It includes a 320k version, the artwork for the single and some notes. Thank you for listening. I hope you enjoy it with some friends.

Keep on, Keepin’ on
